(A Stand-Out Read)
In 2017 I read 660 publications as follows:
Poetry or
Other Genre by Poets: 606
Art: 7
Fiction: 35
Others: 12
The poetry
number is inflated by manuscripts I read for two poetry contests. But numbers
still reflect an increase; here’s a comparison with prior year would show, with
2nd number being 2016 reading:
Poetry or
Other Genre by Poets: 606 / 405
Art: 7 / 13
Fiction: 35
/ 39
Others: 13 / 21
[Notes are not comprehensive; I've got some parenthetical thoughts but it doesn't mean anything if I'm silent on the book.]

IF A FILIPINO WRITER
READS DON QUIJOTE: THREE LECTURES by Alfred Yuson, Vicente G. Groyon and F.
Sionil Jose (Late to this book and the 400th anniversary of Don
Quijote – it’s a paradoxical project, given the *labor* required to find
links between “the world’s greatest novel” and canonical Filipino writing. And
I confess to being amused by said labor, that lapses (cough) to “humor” being
the link. But it’s all benign. And kudos to Senor Miguel de Cervantes – it’s
the rare writer with an “Institute” promoting their works 400 years after their
works were writ.)
