EXCAVATING INTO THE MAINSTREAM, WHERE POETRY BELONGS

The FilAm is a new online magazine for Filipino Americans perhaps focused on but with a scope beyond the nearly 300,000 Filipinos who live in the Tri-State of New York-New Jersey-Connecticut. I'm grateful that they recently reviewed EXCAVATING THE FILIPINO IN ME precisely because they're a "mainstream" publication. Thanks to editor Cristina Pastor. And thanks to M. Earl Smith for reviewing me; I appreciate the reviewer's thoughts that
"From both a material, textual, and bibliographic sense, Eileen Tabios’s “Excavating the Filipino in Me” turns [autobiography] conventions on their heads. Sometimes humorous, sometimes confessional, and sometimes a recorded history of a country torn by over a century of imperialism, the work presented therein allows the reader to trace the fault-lines of Filipino history along Tabios’s intimate scars."
